Dad arrived at our door on Tuesday with his dump truck and bulldozer, and Wes was THRILLED when Pawpaw asked if he wanted to ride with him. He could hardly stand still for me to dress him, but he did manage to hold still for Pawpaw to put in earplugs (safety!). He rode with Dad for almost the entire project, Tuesday and Wednesday.
Just on Monday, this dirt area was nothing but a snakey-looking fencerow. We couldn't see beyond the brush and vines coming down the trees, and we really didn't know if any of the trees were going to be worth saving (vines were growing all over them, and poison oak, and some of the trees were really nothing but giant weeds). What a pleasant surprise to discover a cherry tree, a bradford pear, walnut, hackberry, ash, white oak, and pineoak trees among all the scrub!
Poor guy. He napped well yesterday and today!
And this guy didn't miss much of the activity! Although he was too young to ride, we did sit and watch a good bit of the action on Tuesday.
At the end of the day Tuesday, I caught a vole (not a mole or a mouse). He wasn't injured, just shell-shocked, I think. My purpose wasn't to rescue him, exactly, but to show him to Wes and maybe bring him to Wes's preschool class, if I could keep him alive for the next week. He ended up escaping into the brush today when I tried to transfer him to a proper rodent container. Oh, well. From my research, I think we're going to have to exterminate his family, anyway, because they destroy plants and trees by nawing on roots.
Day 2:
Pawpaw's pretty excited, too, to have his partner join him on the "b'dozer."
What a difference! That view ended at the trees until today. Now you can see straight to the church's backyard.
So much prettier, and it's not even landscaped yet.
Our house is still shaded by trees, but now you can see the trees and the house, rather than all that scrub! I'm loving it! Thanks so much, Pawpaw! You and Wes did a GREAT job!
